Modeled after my favorite composer, Franz Schubert (January 31, 1797 - November 19, 1828), the private home concert is by no means a new concert format. Schubert was known for his private home concerts and European high society of the day clamored to get an invitation. Those who were fortunate enough to secure a seat in a home concert became known as "Schuberians." Even the great Ludwig Van Beethoven took note of Schubert and said of him,

Schubert lived a troubled life and died at a young age from an infection, leaving much of his work unfinished. Still, he managed to compose many hundreds of pieces of music including stage works, choral music, orchestral music, chamber music, piano music and most notably, over 600 lieder - or songs. Some musicologists actually call Schubert "the father of the song."

He was never able to secure adequate permanent employment and throughout his life relied heavily on the support of his family and friends. Wider appreciation for his music during his short life was limited at best and only after his passing did interest in his work increase dramatically.

Despite his frailty and troubled life, Schubert had a great appreciation for friends and for sharing his music. He seemed to favor the home as the perfect environment for sharing his gifts. Schubert loved his friends and enjoyed making new friends. In fact, he once said

Schubert seemed to believe that the greatest symphony hall ever built was the private home. I agree with him and while certainly Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House make for great performance halls, nothing compares to the intimacy of the private home and a guest list of less than fifty guests.

Over the years, I have performed in more than 500 private concerts in homes and estates in the United States and overseas. Out of these concerts have come experiences common to every private concert. This website has been created to help you with your upcoming concert. Please take time to review this site closely as your attention to the details will insure that your concert is an enjoyable experience for you and your guests.

Please note that insurance and security requirements regarding the art collection mandate that certain standards be met. Our mutual attention to these details will insure that your concert flows without interruption and will help me provide the very best for your guests.
